Any difference between cheap and expensive guitar if pickups are changed?

Question by YeYeehYo: Any difference between cheap and expensive guitar if pickups are changed?
I just bought an Ibanez RG1570 Prestige. It retails new for $ 1000 and I’m eventually going to change out the pickups with DiMarzio’s. It occured to me that there are people with lower models, for example the RG270 which is significantly cheaper, change out their picks with Dimarzio’s as well. Would mine still sound a lot better than their lower models, or did I just waste several hundred dollars?

generally higher price=higher quality ….there are many factors that contribute to the sound other than the pickups. The wood, construction, etc. The rg prestige series is well built and will sound better than a cheaper model because of the way it’s built. Good choice with the Dimarzios you won’t be disappointed.

Wow! You dropped $ 1000.00 on an “I ben had”? Those guitar are built out of African Basswood. It’s a very soft wood. I’m not crazy about it myself, but to each his own. Just remember, The harder the wood the brighter the tone and more sustain. I used to own an RG550. I sold it back to my brother in-law because it only had one sound, Dirty. Any way, I digress. As long as you like it, that’s all that matters. If you want to change your pickups. Install hand wound. I wind my own and hand wounds are better then anything made by any big company. Hand wound have so much more harmonic response. You have to hear em to believe.

good pickups will ‘enhance’ the sound and quality of a guitar, your guitar will sounds sweet with new pickups and a low end guitar will sound ‘better’ – there is a lot more involved in good sound than just the pickups, but good pickups definitely sound better :)
